Summary
I interviewed an old teacher of Lucien's, a reclusive professor. In the course of our discussion, I found out something about Lucien's past. Professor Forrest asked me to tell Lucien that he had an old photo of his, and that he should come and collect it.
After the interview, as I was making ready to leave, a crew member hurried over to warn me it had started snowing heavily. Watching the snow fall outside, I am reminded of a meeting, several weeks ago.
Braving the wind and snow, I arrived at the place we had arranged to meet. We waited for ages, but the Northern Lights do not appear. Lucien organized a "surprise" to make up for the fact that we didn't get to see the lights...I felt very moved by his gesture. Then, without warning, the aurora miraculously appeared in the sky.
On our way to find a better viewing point, we decided to drop in on Professor Forrest. During our conversation, I learned that the professor's wife had already passed away...Seeing him sitting there, all alone in his empty cabin, I felt conflicting emotions. At that moment Lucien reached out and held my hand.
We exchanged the notes from our Fortune Cookies. Seeing his note, an odd feeling came over me...Lucien let me see the photo Professor Forrest had kept for him -- a picture of a pitch-black night sky. Lucien explained that when he was younger, he had tried to predict the time and location of the Northern Lights, but his calculations had been incorrect. Seeing his disappointment, Professor Forrest took a photo of the empty sky, and told him, "The Northern Lights bestow happiness on all who witness them." When the day came Lucien found his own happiness, he told him to come and collect the photo.
