I was walking next to Gavin on the way back.
MC: Gavin, am I too much of a bother? You like a simple life, but I keep causing you trouble.
Gavin: Who told you that?
MC: No one. I was just thinking.
Gavin: That's all in your head.
MC: (Depressed) Gavin, sometimes I envy you. You're free and you never care about what other people say.
Gavin: (Laughing) You can't change other people's opinions but you can change your attitude toward them. Don't let yourself be easily affected.
MC: Well, that's easier said than done.
Gavin stopped and stared at me. His shadow lengthened under the streetlight.
Gavin: You shouldn't envy me. You're different than me. You are kind and thoughtful. That's what makes you, you.
MC: Gavin...
Gavin: Besides, I 'm not as free as you think, and I care about a lot of things.
Gavin glanced at me. There was something in his eyes that I couldn't quite fathom.
Suddenly, I heard the sharp blare of a car horn. A speeding car was coming right at me.
Gavin: Watch out!
Gavin pulled me over in the nick of time. I let out a deep sigh of relief
MC: Thank you...
Gavin: Don't mention it. And you've never been a bother to me.
I felt a little embarrassed as I backed out of Gavin's arms.
